ListKit's Comprehensive Search Filter Guide

Introduction

ListKit offers powerful search functionality with two main categories of filtering:

  1. Company Search - For targeting specific types of businesses

  2. People Search - For finding particular roles or individuals within companies

This comprehensive guide will walk you through all available search filters and advanced techniques to help you build highly targeted prospect lists.

Company Search Filters

Start by clicking "Choose Company Filter" to access the following options:

Industries

Browse through 245 different industry categories to narrow down your target companies. You can both include and exclude specific industries.

Examples: IT Services And IT Consulting, Retail, Financial Services, Healthcare, Manufacturing, etc.

Keywords

If you don't see the specific industry you're looking for, use the Keywords filter to manually enter your target niche.

Example: Typing "Cosmetics" will present you with a list of cosmetics brands.

To access the Keywords filter:

  1. Click on "Companies"

  2. Click on the "Keywords" button

  3. Type your desired keywords and hit enter

Technologies

Filter companies by the technologies they use on their websites or in their operations.

Examples: Shopify, WooCommerce, WordPress, HubSpot, etc.

Employees

Filter companies based on their total employee count. Select the ranges that match your target company size.

Hiring Status

Select whether you want to target companies that are:

  • Currently Hiring

  • Not Hiring

  • All

Additional Company Filters

Click the three dots (โ‹ฎ) to access additional options:

  • Location: Filter by company headquarters location

  • Include/Exclude Specific Companies: Add or remove particular businesses from your search

People Search Filters

After narrowing down your target companies, use the People Search filters to find specific individuals:

Job Title

This is the most important people filter. Search for specific roles within your target companies.

Examples: CEO, Founder, CMO, COO, Head of Sales, VP of Marketing, etc.

Exclude Job Titles

One of ListKit's powerful features is the ability to exclude certain job titles from your search.

Example: If you don't want to target Project Managers, you can specifically exclude this title.

Additional People Filters

  • Gender: Filter prospects by gender

  • University: Filter by educational background

  • Location: Filter by where the person is located (which may differ from company HQ)

Advanced Filtering Techniques

Combining Industry and Keyword Filters for Precision

For highly targeted searches, combine industry and keyword filters together. This approach yields much more accurate results than using either filter alone.

Example: If you want to find software companies in the financial space:

  1. Select "Financial Services" in the Industries filter

  2. Add keywords like "SaaS," "software," and "technology" in the Keywords filter

  3. The result will be a targeted list of fintech companies

Excluding Unwanted Keywords & Industries

When building your search, you'll often want to exclude certain types of companies from your results. Here's how to use the "exclude" feature:

Method 1: Using the Keywords Filter

  1. Click on "Companies"

  2. Click on the "Keywords" button

  3. Switch from "Include" to "Exclude"

  4. Type any keywords you want to exclude, then hit enter

Example: If you're targeting restaurants but want to exclude pizza places, simply add "pizza" to your exclude keywords.

Method 2: Using the Data Visualization Chart ListKit's data visualization chart shows you exactly what keywords are making up your search results, allowing you to refine your search by excluding unwanted terms:

  1. Review the keywords appearing in your data visualization chart

  2. Click the "X" next to any keyword you want to exclude

  3. The keyword will immediately be added to your exclude list

  4. Continue this process until your search results contain only relevant companies

Example: If you're searching for restaurants but don't want Mexican restaurants, sandwich shops, or bars, simply click the "X" next to each of these keywords in the chart.

Tips for Effective Searching

  1. Start broad with industries, then narrow down with more specific filters

  2. Always combine industry and keyword filters for more accurate results

  3. Use the data visualization chart to identify and exclude irrelevant keywords

  4. Review your search results before exporting to ensure accuracy

  5. Experiment with different filter combinations to optimize your results

  6. Use the exclude feature to eliminate unwanted companies from your list
