TL;DR
Branded inboxes warm up for 14 days after setup (up to 72 hours). Pre-warmed inboxes skip warmup.
Then every inbox ramps up: 1 email a day, plus 4 on each weekday it sends in a live campaign, 25 a day on its 7th sending day (about 9 calendar days).
Warmup is automatic and keeps running in the background alongside your campaigns. There are no warmup settings to change.
When an inbox is ready, the Warmup Status column on the Inboxes page shows Ready. Don't launch campaigns on inboxes that are still warming.
Billing doesn't pause during warmup. Use the time to build lists, write copy and book your onboarding call.
When you'd use this
Use this to plan when you can start sending, or when your inboxes are sending fewer emails than you expected. If your Inboxes page shows 0/1, see My inboxes say 0/1. When will I start sending?
The standard timeline
Branded inboxes take up to 72 hours to set up, then warm up for 14 days (about 2 to 3 weeks from signup). Pre-warmed inboxes skip warmup. After that, every inbox ramps up: it starts at 1 email a day and adds 4 on each weekday it sends in a live campaign (1, 5, 9, 13, 17, 21, 25), so it reaches 25 a day on its 7th sending day, about 9 calendar days.
Pre-warmed inboxes | Branded inboxes | |
Setup | Usually minutes (occasionally up to 72 hours) | Up to 72 hours |
Warmup | None, already warmed | 14 days |
Ramp-up | 7 sending days to 25 a day | 7 sending days to 25 a day |
First campaign email | Usually the day you set up | About 2 to 3 weeks after signup |
What warmup does
A brand new inbox has no sending history, and inbox providers treat sudden volume from a new inbox as suspicious. During warmup, each inbox automatically sends and receives a small number of emails with a network of other inboxes, building a normal sending history before you send campaigns.
Warmup starts on its own once your inboxes are created, and it keeps running in the background after your campaigns launch. You don't need to set anything up, and you can't turn it off.
You can see each inbox's status on the Inboxes page: the Warmup column shows warmup is active and the Warmup Status column shows whether the inbox is still warming or Ready.
How ramp-up works
After warmup (or right away for pre-warmed inboxes), an inbox doesn't jump to full volume. Its daily limit starts at 1 and goes up by 4 on each weekday it sends in a live campaign:
Sending day | Daily limit per inbox |
Day 1 | 1 |
Day 2 | 5 |
Day 3 | 9 |
Day 4 | 13 |
Day 5 | 17 |
Day 6 | 21 |
Day 7 | 25 |
Day 8 onward | 25 |
Ramp-up only moves forward on days the inbox actually sends in a launched campaign. An inbox that isn't in a live campaign stays at 1 a day.
The daily limit is locked while an inbox ramps. You can change it after ramp-up. See How many emails can I send per day, and can I change my daily limit?
What to do during warmup
Build your lead lists and write your sequence.
Book your onboarding call. See How do I book my onboarding call or a demo?
Run the Dream 100 bonus from your main inbox to start booking meetings now. See What is the Dream 100 bonus and how do I use it?
If you already launched a campaign on inboxes that are still warming, pause it and resume it when they show Ready.
Expected outcome
Your inboxes show Ready, you add them to a campaign, and about 9 calendar days later each one sends 25 emails a day. A Bundle with 40 inboxes then sends about 1,000 a day.
FAQ
When do I know my inboxes are warm enough to send from?
When the Warmup Status column on the Inboxes page shows Ready.
Can I send campaigns while my inboxes are warming up?
No. Wait until they show Ready. If a campaign is already live on warming inboxes, pause it and resume it once they're Ready.
Is there a notification when warmup finishes?
There's no email. Check the Inboxes page for Ready. If you use webhooks, the "Inbox warmup completed" event fires when inboxes finish warmup.
Does billing pause during warmup?
No. Billing starts on the day you buy, not when warmup ends.
Can I speed up warmup or ramp-up?
Not for new branded domains. Both protect your sender reputation. To skip warmup, choose pre-warmed domains when you set up a Bundle.
Can I turn warmup off?
No. Warmup runs automatically for every inbox, alongside your campaigns.
