How do I read my results in Analytics, and why are there no open rates?

What each number on the Analytics page means, what good looks like, and why ListKit has no open rates.

Written by Andre Haykal Jr

TL;DR

  • The Analytics page (next.listkit.io/analytics) shows Emails Sent, Unique Leads contacted, Replies, Cost Per Positive Lead and Interested Leads for the campaigns and dates you pick.

  • ListKit doesn't track opens or clicks. Judge campaigns by replies and positive replies.

  • The number to watch: 1 positive reply per 1,000 people contacted. A reply rate above 1% is a healthy guardrail.

  • Bounces show per campaign in the Bounce column. Ignore them while positive replies are healthy.

  • Results per variant aren't shown yet.

When you'd use this

Use Analytics once or twice a week to see whether a campaign is working. Cold email needs volume before the numbers mean anything, so judge each campaign angle after it has contacted about 1,000 people.

How it works

Filters

At the top, pick All campaigns or a single campaign, and a date range (the default is Last 7 days). There's also a Share button.

Cards

Card

What it tells you

Emails Sent

Every email sent in the period.

Unique Leads contacted

How many different people got at least one email. Use this for benchmarks.

Replies

Replies received in the period.

Cost Per Positive Lead

An estimate of what each positive lead cost you.

Interested Leads

Positive replies, also shown as a % of replies and a % of leads contacted. Click See all positive replies to see them in one list.

Each card also shows the change compared with the previous period.

Chart

Sends vs. Interested rate plots how many emails went out against the share that turned into interested leads. A steady send line with a flat interested line usually means the list, offer or copy needs work.

Active Campaigns table

Each campaign with its Status, Total leads, Sent, Replied, Interested Leads and Bounce. The Campaign page shows similar columns, including Positive Replies.

Benchmark

Reply rate

Bounce

Bounce column

No fixed target. Ignore it while positive replies are healthy. If positive replies drop and bounces are high, see Why is my bounce rate high and how do I fix it?.

Tip: the "% of leads contacted" figure on the Interested Leads card does the first calculation for you. 0.1% equals 1 positive reply per 1,000 people contacted.

Why there are no open rates

ListKit doesn't track opens or clicks, on purpose. Open tracking needs a hidden tracking pixel, which can hurt deliverability, and opens aren't reliable anyway because many email apps preload images. Judge campaigns by replies and positive replies.

Expected outcome

  • You know whether each campaign reaches 1 positive reply per 1,000 people contacted.

  • You know when to look at bounces and when to ignore them.

  • You go straight from the numbers to your positive replies and answer them.

FAQ

Is there an open rate in Analytics?

No. ListKit doesn't track opens or clicks, on purpose. Open tracking needs a hidden tracking pixel, which can hurt deliverability, and opens aren't reliable anyway because many email apps preload images. Judge campaigns by replies and positive replies.

Is 'clicked' the same as an open?

Neither is tracked. The old Clicked column was removed. Use replies and positive replies instead.

Which variant is winning?

Analytics doesn't show results per variant yet. To compare angles, run them as separate campaigns and compare positive replies.

How long before I judge a campaign?

Wait until it has contacted about 1,000 people. Judge each angle on positive replies, not on the first few days.

Why is my bounce count higher than the number of people who bounced?

Bounces are counted as events, and one address can bounce more than once. See How can I see which leads bounced or unsubscribed, and how do I block a contact?.

Why is Emails Sent much higher than Unique Leads contacted?

Each lead gets several emails in a sequence. Emails Sent counts every email. Unique Leads contacted counts each person once.

Can I see analytics for just one campaign?

Yes. Pick it in the All campaigns filter.
