What do the campaign settings mean?

What each setting in Campaign Setup does and what we recommend.

Written by Andre Haykal Jr

TL;DR

  • Campaign Setup is step 3 of every campaign. It covers the sending inboxes, the schedule and four campaign settings.

  • Schedule: time zone, sending days (Monday to Friday by default, weekends optional) and a start and end time.

  • Recommended: Company-Level Auto-Pause on, AI Lead Categorization on, and both Out of Office options on.

  • There's no start date, send interval, maximum new leads per day or sending priority setting. The campaign starts when you publish it, and pacing is built in.

  • Your settings save when you move to another step.

When you'd use this

Use this when you set up a campaign, or when a campaign behaves in a way you didn't expect and you want to check what each setting does. Campaign name and leads are covered in How do I create a campaign in Email Engine?, and writing the sequence in How do I use the AI Script Writer to write my sequence?.

How it works

Open the campaign and go to step 3, Campaign Setup.

Setting

What it does

Our recommendation

Audience (Manage)

Shows how many leads are in the campaign. Manage takes you back to step 1 to change the lead source.

Check the number matches what you expect.

Who is sending this campaign?

The inboxes that send this campaign. The table shows each inbox's Daily Limit and Campaign Used (how many campaigns use it).

Select every inbox that shows Ready. Campaigns that share inboxes share their daily limit.

Choose Time Zone

The time zone your sending days and hours follow.

Your prospects' time zone, not yours.

Which days should your email send?

Checkboxes for Monday to Sunday. Monday to Friday are ticked by default.

For B2B outreach, leave Saturday and Sunday off.

Starting time

The start and end of the daily sending window.

About 9am to 5pm in your prospects' time zone.

Company-Level Auto-Pause

Stops sending to other contacts at a company after someone from that company replies.

On.

AI Lead Categorization

AI labels each reply, for example Interested, Not Interested or Out of Office. These labels drive Master Inbox filters and positive-reply notifications.

On.

Exclude Out-of-Office replies from reply rate calculation

Leaves automatic out-of-office replies out of your reply rate.

On.

If a lead is categorized as Out of Office, continue follow-ups after N days

Continues the follow-ups for leads who sent an out-of-office reply, after the number of days you set.

On, for example 10 days.

What isn't a setting

  • Start date: the review step shows "Start Date: Immediately after launch". The campaign starts when you publish it.

  • Minutes between emails and sending priority: spacing between emails and the balance between new leads and follow-ups are handled automatically.

  • Maximum new leads per day: removed. Your volume is set by your inboxes. Each inbox has its own daily limit, set on the Inboxes page. See How many emails can I send per day, and can I change my daily limit?.

  • Stop on reply: there's no toggle because a reply always stops that lead's sequence. See What happens to a lead's sequence when they reply?.

New inboxes ramp up before they reach full volume. Branded inboxes take up to 72 hours to set up, then warm up for 14 days (about 2 to 3 weeks from signup). Pre-warmed inboxes skip warmup. After that, every inbox ramps up: it starts at 1 email a day and adds 4 on each weekday it sends in a live campaign (1, 5, 9, 13, 17, 21, 25), so it reaches 25 a day on its 7th sending day, about 9 calendar days.

Step 4: Review & Publish

This step has no settings of its own. It summarizes the campaign name, lead source, estimated audience, sequence, inboxes, sending days and time. Use Edit on any section to go back, then publish.

Expected outcome

Your campaign sends from the inboxes you chose, on the days and hours you set, and handles replies, company contacts and out-of-office messages the way you want.

FAQ

Can I change these settings after publishing?

Yes. Open the campaign, go to Campaign Setup and make your change. It saves when you move to another step. The sequence itself is locked while the campaign is live, so pause the campaign first if you want to edit your emails.

What happens if I don't select any inboxes?

The campaign can't send. Select at least one inbox that shows Ready.

Should I turn off Saturday and Sunday?

They're off by default, and for B2B outreach we recommend keeping them off. Most prospects don't read work email on weekends.

Where did Minutes Between Emails and Maximum New Leads Per Day go?

They were removed. Pacing is built in, and your daily volume comes from each inbox's daily limit.

Does a reply stop the sequence?

Yes, always. The Out of Office option is the only exception: it lets follow-ups continue after the number of days you set.
