TL;DR
The Technology Filter finds companies using specific tools or platforms, detected via public signals.
It's a precision layer, not a standalone filter. It works best combined with Industry and Keywords.
Coverage is directional, not exhaustive (many companies that use a tool won't be detected).
Don't use tool names as Keywords when targeting end users. That finds agencies, not the tool's actual users.
When you'd use this / Why it matters
If your offer depends on a specific tech stack or integration (e.g., Shopify, HubSpot, Salesforce), the Technology Filter helps confirm real-world tool usage so you can prioritize accounts more likely to convert.
How the Technology Filter works
ListKit detects technology usage using trusted third-party datasets and public website metadata: scripts, tags, pixels, and integrations. You can select one or multiple technologies; if a company uses any selected tool, it appears in results.
Important limitation
The filter is directional, not exhaustive:
Many companies that use a given tool won't be detected
Some companies hide or proxy their tech stack
Not all integrations are publicly detectable
Use Technology to confirm usage, not to exclude everyone else.
Tip: After adding a technology, switch to Analytics view (the icon next to Table view above the results) to check the industry mix before exporting.
Why you shouldn't use a tool name as a keyword
Using "Shopify" as a Keyword typically returns Shopify agencies, freelancers, and app developers, not actual Shopify stores. Stores rarely describe themselves that way; agencies do.
Correct usage:
✅ Technology Filter → Shopify → finds Shopify stores
✅ Keyword Filter → Shopify → finds Shopify agencies
When to use the Technology Filter
Use it when your ICP relies on a specific tool or ecosystem, or uses a platform your product integrates with.
Examples:
A Shopify agency uses Technology = Shopify + Industry = Retail or Apparel + Keywords = clothing, boutique to find Shopify stores.
A HubSpot consultant uses Technology = HubSpot + Industry = Marketing & Advertising.
A Salesforce integration uses Technology = Salesforce + Funding = Series A, B or C + Employees 51–200 and 201–500.
Avoid relying on it alone if your niche is broad or the technology isn't essential to your offer.
Expected outcome
You should now be able to:
Identify companies using specific tools
Avoid shrinking your market unnecessarily
Distinguish between end users and agencies
Build precise lists without sacrificing scale
Troubleshooting / FAQs
Why is my Technology-filtered list smaller than expected?
Detection is partial by design. Expect to capture a portion, not all, of actual tool users.
Can I combine multiple technologies?
Yes. Select all relevant tools if your ICP spans platforms.
Should I always pair Technology with other filters?
Yes. Combine with Industry and Keywords for the best results.
